Jason Huff focuses his practice on patent prosecution and counseling, particularly within the biotechnology and chemical fields. Jason manages and advises clients on US and foreign patent portfolios, both large and small. He drafts and prosecutes patent applications in a range of technologies, including disease treatments and methods, fiber glass and other inorganic chemical compositions, sizing compositions, organic compounds including textile coatings, medicaments, and resins, biologics such as antibodies, stem cells, and protein derivatives, cell culture compositions, bioinformatics and bioanalytical methods, medical diagnostics and related methods, liposomes, water sanitation treatments, medical devices, and more. He performs intellectual property due diligence and drafts opinions including patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions. Jason further prepares arguments for appeals before the Patent Trials and Appeals Board, and supports patent litigation and inter partes review teams via research and technical expertise roles. His clients include US Fortune 500 companies, universities, technology start-ups, hospitals, foreign agents, and numerous pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology manufacturers and researchers. 

Jason received his J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina in 2015, where he served on the Board of Directors for the Carolina Intellectual Property Law Association. He received the Dameran Law Scholarship Award, as well as the Gressman & Pollitt Award as the Best Overall Oral Advocate in his law school section. Prior to working in private practice, he gained experience in intellectual property, particularly in patent law, as an extern at GlaxoSmithKline, Quintiles Transnational, Research Triangle Institute, and the University of North Carolina Office of Technology Development.

Jason received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where his graduate and postdoctoral research focused on functional determinants of membrane permeability in mycobacteria and their associated roles in pathogenicity. He published six articles in peer-reviewed journals, received a National Institute of Health research grant, and won several awards for presentation of his research. Jason has further experience in biocides research while at Dow Chemical and as a neurophysiologist while at Biotronic Neural Monitoring.
