Biotech Patent Attorney Joins MCC

Meunier Carlin & Curfman LLC (“MCC”) continues to increase its intellectual property expertise by adding Gibson Lanier to the firm. Gibson, a patent attorney with a PhD in immunology and microbiology, comes to MCC from the Atlanta office of Smith, Gambrell & Russell.

Gibson provides counseling to clients in all aspects of foreign and domestic patent prosecution, including reissue, reexamination and interference proceedings, in the biotechnology, medical device, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Gibson uses his extensive scientific background in immunology and microbiology to provide guidance to his clients on a variety of intellectual property matters. Additionally, he prepares and evaluates licensing agreements, non-infringement, invalidity, patentability, and freedom to operate opinions, as well as counsels clients in due diligence matters.

For his clients in the biotechnology industry, Gibson advises and prosecutes patents for vaccines, immunological therapies, DNA and protein therapeutics, antibodies, stem cells, immunological screens, biomarkers, transgenic animals, gene therapy, molecular and cellular biological screening assays, diagnostic assays, diagnostic sensors, and peptide/protein therapy. His chemical and pharmaceutical experience includes protecting innovations in pesticides, polymers, plastics, composites, and controlled release vehicles.

In addition to his legal practice, Gibson is heavily involved with both legal and industry groups. He currently serves as a Member of the Intellectual Property Section Board of Directors for the Atlanta Bar Association. He is also a Committee Member of the Public Policy Legal Task Force for the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). Gibson serves as a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Georgia Patents and the Georgia State University Intellectual Property Advisory Board.
