Meunier Carlin & Curfman LLC (“MCC”) announces that the firm has achieved the Midsize Mansfield Rule Certification, as well as Mansfield Certification Plus. The Mansfield Rule certification initiative aims to broaden the representation of women, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ attorneys, and disabled lawyers in law firm ownership and leadership. To achieve certification, MCC collaborated with Diversity Lab on an 18-month pilot certification process which included monitoring, measurement, transparency and accountability. MCC’s Certification Plus status indicates that the firm exceeded the baseline certification requirements and has met or surpassed 30 percent diverse representation in current leadership roles, recruitment, client pitches and staffing on matters. The Midsize Mansfield Rule Certification program ran for 18 months with 26 firms participating.

“We need diverse teams with different backgrounds and experiences to better serve our clients,” said managing partner, Meredith Struby. “Our experience with Diversity Lab has been positive and beneficial. We are excited to continue the certification process for an additional term.”

“We are incredibly proud of – and grateful to – the firms that stepped up to try this new version and partner with us to create more diverse and inclusive workplaces in the midsize sector,” said Kate Johnston Ryan, Chief Administrative Officer at Diversity Lab. “Despite launching the midsize iteration of the Mansfield Rule in the midst of a global pandemic, these firms were not deterred from taking on challenging systems changes to increase diversity in their firms and the profession. We thank and congratulate this truly committed group of firms and leaders.”

Designed to expand on the successes of the original Mansfield Rule, the midsize Mansfield Rule Certification measures whether participating firms have affirmatively considered at least 30 percent of people from underrepresented groups for leadership and governance roles, partner promotions, and client pitch opportunities. The program has expanded to over 140 firms in the US and Canada.
