Meunier Carlin & Curfman LLC (“MCC”) announces the addition of Susanne Somersalo PhD to our leading intellectual property firm. Dr. Somersalo, a native of Finland, works to develop the patent portfolio for companies and universities located in Europe.

Dr. Somersalo joins MCC from Finnish firm Berggren’s New Jersey office, where her patent practice focused on chemical, agricultural, biotechnology and medical device patents for clients in Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Russia, Italy and the UK. Her clients appreciate her connection to Europe and her European approach to business solutions. In addition to English, Dr. Somersalo is fluent in Finnish and has conversational abilities in Swedish and German.

“Susanne makes a great addition to our chemical team and our growing foreign practice,” said co-lead of MCC’s chemical technology group, Chris Curfman. “Her wealth of knowledge in agricultural and chemical patent prosecution will enable us to better service our clients in those industries.”

Dr. Somersalo received her PhD from the University of Turku in plant physiology. She received her LL.M. in intellectual property from Franklin Pierce Law Center in New Hampshire and her J.D. from Concord Law School in California.
