Biography

Chris devotes his practice to counseling universities and research institutions, start-ups, large and small corporations on all aspects of patent law in chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology-related technologies. Chris uses his extensive scientific background in chemistry and pharmaceuticals to provide guidance to his clients on patent prosecution, as well as on inventorship, non-infringement, and invalidity opinions. His creativity in handling patent portfolios, prosecution, and opinions has led him to become a sought after expert for clients who are pioneering advances in the life sciences industry.

For clients in the pharmaceutical industry, Chris advises on and prosecutes patents for antiviral, antimicrobial, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and anticancer therapeutics, organic synthesis, targeted delivery and controlled release vehicles, and formulations. In the chemical arts, Chris advises on and prosecutes applications for polymers, plastics, composites, glass and ceramics, nanotechnology, catalysts, green chemistry, colloidal and surface chemistry, combinatorial chemistry, nutritional and food chemistry, diagnostics and sensors, chemical processes and reactor design and agrochemicals including pesticides and herbicides.

Chris’s technical experience also extends to biotechnology and medical technology including protecting innovations in bioremediation, molecular and cellular biological screening assays, peptide/protein therapy and diagnostics, immunoassays and nucleic acid-based diagnostics, research tools, fermentation, implants, prostheses and surgical methods.

Chris also enjoys educating clients, researchers and students on various aspects of patent law. He was an adjunct professor of law at Emory University School of Law. He keeps clients up to date with real time alerts on important laws, legislation and holdings. Chris was named a Georgia Super Lawyers “Rising Star” and a Super Lawyer. Chris is also president of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Georgia Bar.
