James C. “Jim” Mason

Biography
Jim Mason has over two decades of experience pursing patent rights internationally and at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He specializes in patents related to pharmaceutical, chemical, and life science technologies, with a particular focus on small-molecule therapeutics, protein-based therapeutics, and antisense oligonucleotides. He combines bench training in synthetic chemistry with deep experience in prosecution, board appeals, intellectual property counseling, due diligence, market exclusivity, FDA patent term extensions, and licensing.
Prior to working at MCC, he spent over 15 years at Emory University’s Office of Technology Transfer, obtaining patents for innovations directed to curing cancer, infectious diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases. He previously worked for AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, where he managed international patent portfolios for small-molecule therapeutic candidates. Jim started his career as a medicinal chemist the in the biotechnology hub of San Diego, California before attending law school. His graduate work in nanotechnology resulted in several scholarly publications.
